Seed germination
Basic materials needed:
- Seeds of your choice
- Sprouting cubes or Sopalin-style paper plates and napkins
- Mini greenhouse or resealable plastic bag
- Heating mat or warm spot
- fresh water
Let's go :
-
Prepare your seeds: Choose seeds that kick you. Make sure they are fresh and in good condition. If you want to speed up the germination process, you can soak them in water for a few hours
-
Sprouting cubes. Use germination cubes prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions. Place your seeds in the holes provided and water them lightly.
-
Paper plates/paper napkins. Take a plate and some paper towels. lightly wet the paper just enough to soak it. Arrange your seeds on it and place a second plate before placing it in a cupboard.
-
Mini heated greenhouse. Place your germination cubes in a heated mini greenhouse. Close the greenhouse to create a warm and humid environment ideal for germination by taking care of the temperature and the humidity level.
-
Resealable plastic bag. Put your seeds in a resealable plastic bag and seal it well to keep the humidity in and create a warm atmosphere.
-
Heating mat. Place your mini greenhouse on a heat mat to provide gentle, even heat to the seeds.
-
Warm spot. Find a cozy spot near a radiator or heat source for your seeds. Make sure the place stays at a temperature between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius.
-
Check the humidity: Regularly check that the germination cubes or the support remain moist. If necessary, add a little water to keep the humidity. Be careful not to water too much, because the seeds could rot.
-
Wait for germination: Depending on the seeds you have chosen, it can take a few days to several weeks for them to germinate. Keep an eye on it and watch for signs of germination, such as roots or small shoots showing up.
-
Transplant your seedlings: When your seedlings have germinated and have strong roots and shoots, you can replant them in pots or in your garden. Make sure to provide them with a cool environment to keep them growing.
